Sacred Grief Counseling

Private, spiritually guided support for grief, death, profound endings, and life transitions.

Rooted in grief psychology, ancestral wisdom, and lived practice.

There are losses that change more than what happened. They change your relationship to your body, your family, your future, your faith, your identity, and even your understanding of who you are.

And, while life continues around you, you may still be trying to understand how to live inside what has changed.
You don’t have to navigate it alone.

75 minutes - Virtual

Life keeps moving. Your grief doesn’t always move with it.

The calls become less frequent. People return to their lives. Work continues. Children still need you. Responsibilities remain. And somehow, you are expected to keep participating in a life that may no longer feel like the one you knew.

Maybe you worry you’ve talked about your loss too much. Maybe you’re exhausted from being “the strong one.” Maybe everyone thinks you’re doing fine because you’ve gotten very good at functioning.

Maybe what you’re grieving isn’t something the people around you even recognize as grief.

Or maybe you simply don’t want the people you love to feel responsible for holding everything you’re carrying. So much grief gets carried alone, not because we don’t need or want support, but because ordinary life rarely makes enough room for it.

Sacred Grief Counseling creates that room.

You may recognize yourself here

You may be grieving the death or transition of someone you love.

You may be living with anticipatory grief as someone you love approaches the end of life.

You may be grieving a relationship, family rupture, identity, home, motherhood, belonging, a dream, or a version of your life you thought would exist.

You may be carrying grief complicated by family history, culture, estrangement, things left unsaid, or a relationship that was never simple.

You may feel grief in your body, as exhaustion, tightness, numbness, restlessness, overwhelm, or emotions you cannot quite name.

You may be functioning on the outside while privately wondering how long you can keep carrying everything this way.

Or your loss may have opened spiritual questions about death, ancestors, meaning, purpose, or what comes after that conventional grief spaces have not known how to hold.

You don’t need the right words for what is happening. You only need somewhere you don’t have to pretend it isn’t happening.

A DIFFERENT WAY OF BEING WITH GRIEF

I approach and understand grief as relational, embodied, spiritual, and cyclical.

My work is grounded in my calling and practice as an Ọya Priestess, in relationship with Spirit and the Ancestors, and supported by my work as a PhD scholar-practitioner researching grief, bereavement, ancestral connection, and cyclical worldviews. I also draw from training in grief psychology, trauma studies, somatics, yoga, breathwork, ritual, meditation, and end-of-life care.

There is no predetermined formula for our sessions. We begin with what is present and listen for what your grief is asking for. Our work may move between conversation and deep witnessing, breath and movement, somatic practice, ritual, ancestral guidance, spiritual communication, or remembrance.

Together, we create space for you to understand what your grief is carrying, tend what lives in the body as well as the mind, deepen your relationship with yourself, Spirit, and your ancestors when desired, and discover how to live in relationship with what has changed.

“My understanding has changed to include not just the sadness for the loss as it happened, but the loss of a past and a future. I've also come to understand how grief is embodied within me—what it feels like in my body, not just in my mind.”

The Sacred Grief Private Container

Grief has an ever-evolving landscape. What is present in our first conversation may lead us somewhere entirely different several weeks later. A memory surfaces. An anniversary arrives. Something shifts in your body. A relationship changes. A dream comes. Anger emerges beneath sadness. Or you recognize that what you thought you were grieving contains another loss underneath it.

This is why my primary way of working privately is through a three-month container rather than isolated appointments.

Meeting biweekly gives us time to develop relationship and trust while allowing space between sessions for the work to settle, move, and reveal what comes next.

Three months of private, spiritually guided accompaniment through grief, endings, and transitions.

What our sessions can hold

There is no standard Sacred Grief session because there is no standard experience of grief.

Depending on what is present, our work may include:

  • Deep listening, reflective dialogue, and emotional processing

  • Somatic and embodied practice, including breath and movement

  • Ritual, remembrance, and ancestral or spiritual guidance

  • Exploring identity, meaning, relationship, and transition

  • Practices for tending what emerges between sessions

  • Space to be witnessed without needing to perform, explain, or make your grief easier for someone else to hold

You remain an active participant in the work. Nothing spiritual, embodied, or ritual-based is imposed upon you.

We move with discernment, consent, relationship, and what is actually needed.

Sometimes the body reaches what words cannot.

“In one exercise, we had to breathe in a feeling or a memory and then exhale and release it. I felt an intense emotion that is not always accessible to me. I was able to clearly experience what my grief is afraid to let go of.”

What it can feel like to finally have somewhere for your grief

  • “Minerva’s grief counseling support has been an invaluable part of one of the hardest moments of loss in my life. She offers a strong container of support that includes the right blend of guided interventions with deep compassionate listening. She will guide you when you’re so lost in your grief that you just need someone else to take the reigns and listen on days when you need someone to see and hold you just as you are. For me, her deep rooting in spirituality and Ifa practice has been integral to my ability to feel held and comforted by Spirit through her support. As a fellow Latina it has also felt deeply comforting to find solace in the culturally resonant container that Minerva embodies and holds. Minerva’s approach is compassionately fierce - she will hold you through the journey of grief with both tenderness and the radical acceptance one needs to walk through earth shattering pain and loss. Her extensive practice in yoga, Dharma and Ifa, along with her own lived experience with grief, gift her with the ability to be a powerful guide through grief. I am deeply grateful for her accompaniment as I walk the long road of grief.”

  • “The death of my father was the hardest thing I have ever experienced. As a self-proclaimed "Daddy's girl," the loss hit me with an intensity I never imagined. I felt lost and adrift, unsure of how to navigate the waves of grief. Thankfully, I found Minerva. From our very first conversation, she was patient, kind, and attentive, creating a safe space for me to process my emotions without judgment.

What I benefited from most was the somatic and meditative work we did together. Minerva has a deep understanding of how the body holds grief, and she guided me through practices that allowed me to connect with my physical experience in a profound way. This was crucial for me, as I was often overwhelmed by the emotional and mental aspects of grieving.

One of the most helpful things Minerva emphasized was the non-linear nature of grief. She made it clear that I would likely be in a constant stage of grief, and she empowered me to trust the process, encouraging me to "let my body and my ancestors do what they do best." This reframed my entire understanding of grief and gave me permission to honor my experience without pressure to "move on."

Finally, Minerva's awareness of how death is viewed in our spiritual tradition was the main reason I sought her support. It was so important to me to work with someone who understood the cultural nuances of my grief and could honor my beliefs. I am eternally grateful for Minerva's compassionate guidance during this incredibly difficult time. She has been an invaluable source of support, and I highly recommend her services to anyone navigating loss.”

  • “Minerva has been a vital part in my grief journey. She has helped me understand how to process and navigate my grief. Even on the days it felt impossible she was there to remind me what I needed in real time. I am forever grateful for the way Minerva has shifted my perspective on the healing journey after losing a dear loved one. She showed me how to cultivate a new relationship with grief that feels comforting and not so scary but more familiar. For example she supported me with learning how to build an alter, celebrate and communicate with my ancestors which in turn truly made me feel more connected. Grief is hard and very sad but being able to stay in connection with my ancestors has given me a light I didn’t have before. I am blessed to have experienced Minerva’s magic of support during one of the hardest times in my life. Thank you!”
